Califoria Reds Beyond the Ordinary
Four Exceptional Wines. Four Different Personalities.
Sunday, October 25 | 1:00–2:30 PM
The Cellars
Everybody knows California makes great red wine.
But there’s a lot more to California reds than the Cabernet Sauvignon you usually reach for.
Some are rich, bold, and powerful. Others are silky, elegant, and beautifully balanced. And sometimes the most interesting wines are the ones that don’t fit neatly into any one category.
This Sunday in The Cellars, we’re exploring four terrific California reds that showcase just how much variety, character, and complexity the Golden State has to offer.
From a beautifully crafted Merlot to a classic Cabernet and two intriguing red blends, this is a chance to taste four very different approaches to California winemaking—and perhaps discover a new favorite along the way.
🍷 FOUR CALIFORNIA REDS WORTH DISCOVERING
2023 Merryvale Merlot
A rich, approachable Napa Valley Merlot, that received 93 points from James Suckling, with layers of ripe plum, dark cherry, and subtle spice. Smooth tannins and a velvety texture make this a wonderful reminder that great Merlot deserves a lot more attention.
2021 Emblem Cabernet Sauvignon
A classic Napa Valley Cabernet offering bold blackberry and blackcurrant flavors, complemented by notes of vanilla, oak, and baking spice. Full-bodied and beautifully structured, with the depth and character Cabernet lovers appreciate.
2019 Priest Ranch “Snake Oil” Cabernet Sauvignon
A serious Napa Valley Cabernet made from three select hillside vineyard blocks. Rich dark plum, cassis, cedar, and tobacco spice lead into a powerful, beautifully structured finish. 98 points from The Tasting Panel and 93 points from Wine Spectator.
Caterhaul Red Blend
A bold California red blend that brings together generous dark fruit, richness, and a smooth, satisfying finish. An excellent example of how blending different grape varieties can create something distinctive.
